Advancing Agriculture Through Research & Innovation
In 2021, Harvey Fertilizer & Gas established a dedicated agricultural research program at Harvey Farms. The program serves as a training ground for our sales and agronomy teams and as a way to deliver proven, data-driven recommendations to our growers led by Agronomist, Gary Hamm.
Through carefully designed research plots, we evaluate the leading corn, soybean, wheat, and cotton varieties in side-by-side comparisons. Our program doesn’t stop at variety trials, we also test fertility strategies, planting methods, crop protection programs, and our full line of AP proprietary nutritional products in Eastern North Carolina.

What We Test
Our research program focuses on every aspect of crop production:
Seed Variety Performance
- Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, and Cotton
- Heat/stress tolerance, disease resistance, insect tolerance, growth habit, and yield
Current lineup:
- 1 AP Corn Hybrid
- 5 AP Soybean Varieties
- 4 AP Wheat Varieties
Nutritional & Fertility Products
- Broadcast Fertilizer Additives
- In-Furrow Starter Applications
- 2×2 Starter Applications

Why It Matters
Field to Farm: Extending Research Beyond Our Plots
Testing doesn’t stop at Harvey Farms. We partner with local growers to conduct on-farm trials and enter new seed varieties into the NC State Official Variety Testing (OVT) Program. This ensures that every AP product and seed variety is validated both in research plots and in real-world farming operations.
Sharing Research: Harvey’s Field Days
Each year, Harvey’s hosts Field Days to bring growers, industry partners, and staff together in the field. These events give participants the opportunity to:
- Walk research plots and see varieties and products side-by-side
- Discuss agronomic practices with Harvey’s team and guest experts
- Learn about the latest AP Products and upcoming releases
- Connect with other growers and share experiences
Beyond these annual events, we also encourage our sales team to bring growers directly to the plots throughout the season. Visiting at different growth stages allows farmers to see how products and varieties perform over time — from planting to harvest. These in-season visits create meaningful conversations, provide real-world insight, and help growers make more informed decisions for their operations.

The Harvey’s Commitment
By combining innovative seed genetics, advanced fertility solutions, and agronomic research, Harvey’s delivers products and programs that maximize yield potential, strengthen crop resilience, and provide long-term return on investment.
